About an hour and a half from downtown Pittsburgh, the Stonehouse Restaurant & Inn dates back to 1822. The historic restaurant, snuggled among the trees, features an eclectic menu. Order such comfort dishes as fried chicken, meatloaf, lasagna, and pot roast. The Stonehouse Restaurant is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday's hours run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Summer hours begin in May and run through October.
2. Clifford’s Restaurant – 514 Upper Harmony Road, Evans City, PA 16033
Escape to the countryside, only 40 minutes from downtown, at Clifford's Restaurant. Tucked among the farmland in Evans City, the enchanting restaurant focuses on American and European cuisine. Popular entrees include fresh salmon, chicken Romano, and pork chops. Reservations are required for this quaint restaurant with only 12 tables. Clifford's Restaurant is open 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
3. Braddock’s Restaurant – 3261 National Pike, Farmington, PA 15437
Sit down to a scrumptious, home-cooked meal at the cozy Braddock's Restaurant. In the mood for breakfast? The all-day breakfast menu features buttermilk pancakes, French toast, and other morning favorites. Or, try the fried chicken, pork chops, or meatloaf. Stop by Braddock's Restaurant from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday. Weekend hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
4. Mitzi’s Place – 112 E Main Street, Dayton, PA 16222
Feel right at home at Mitzi's Place, a cozy eatery in Dayton. Peruse the generous menu that features soup, salads, sides, pizza, and a kids' menu. Entrees include hot roast beef, spaghetti, and fish. Mitzi's Place is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
5. Country Junction Restaurant – 81 Eileen Drive, Smicksburg, PA 16256
Escape to the country at Country Junction, an old-fashioned country restaurant in Smicksburg. The quaint eatery boasts a menu of such homemade goodies as beer battered fish and turkey. Cap your meal off with a piece of homemade pie. Country Junction is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
6. Out of the Fire Café – 3784 Pennsylvania 31, Donegal, PA 15628
Bring Your Own Beer (BYOB) to Out of the Fire Cafe, which also welcomes diners to watch the chef make their meals in the open kitchen. The family-owned restaurant, offering both indoor and outdoor seating, features such entrees as New York strip steak and pasta. Out of the Fire Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Or, visit between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
7. Hyeholde Restaurant – 1516 Coraopolis Heights Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108
