Ever have one of those lousy days where it seemed like nothing could cheer you up? Until, of course, along came a furry feline or a hugable pooch to rub against you and make the whole world seem bright again. Whether you need a quick pick-me-up or you're simply longing for a purr-fect way to spend an hour or two, head over to this cat-themed cafe in Pittsburgh.
Next time you're in the mood for a glass of wine, a meal, or just to hang out with some lovable felines, make your way to Colony Cafe, perhaps the city's most unique eatery.
Colony Cafe is sectioned into several areas, including a standalone cafe and the cat room. You can either eat in the cafe or take your meal with you when you mingle with the kitties.
Simply in the mood for a delicious drink? Order an espresso, a hot chocolate, or one of several dozen drinks. Beer, wine, and cocktails are available, too.
Pair your drink with a bite to eat, such as a sandwich, a wrap, or a fresh salad. You can also order a shareable app - a cheese board, for example - for the whole table.
The fun, of course, starts when you visit the cat room. Grab a seat with your food, or without, but don't feed the cats anything - no matter how adorable they look when they beg.
Keep a few rules in mind as you visit with the kitties, too. Don't wake up any of the sleeping cats, and don't force them to interact with you. You can play with and take photos of (no flash) the cats, but don't pick them up.
Reservations for the cat room are highly recommended as spots fill up quickly. An admission fee of $8 is required for all visitors. Students can enjoy a lower $5 rate on Thursdays with their student ID.
If one of those fantastic felines steals your heart, fill out an adoption application with Animal Friends. Processing time generally takes a few days.
Make furry new friends at Colony Cafe, open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
