Those of us who have a sweet tooth know that when a craving hits we’re just going to be downright miserable until we satisfy it. Sometimes nothing will cure that craving like a Pennsylvania classic – shoofly pie. There’s one place that has been dishing up some of the best shoofly pie in the world for decades, and it's right here in Pennsylvania.
Even if you can’t make it to Dutch Haven in Ronks for its famous shoofly pie, you can’t still indulge in the popular dessert. The bakery ships their famous pies all over the U.S., too.
A neighborhood favorite since 1946, Dutch Haven still uses its original shoofly pie recipe, the same one that earned it the title of “America’s best shoofly pie.”
However, you really have to try it, so you can judge for yourself. If you’re not so sure if you want to order a slice or a whole pie, you can try a sample during your visit.
For a twist on the original shoofly pie, which lasts two weeks non-refrigerated and a month in the refrigerator, try the chocolate shoofly pie.
While Dutch Haven Bakery draws sweets lovers for its famous shoofly pie, it also serves another popular Pennsylvania treat – whoopie pies. Be sure to pick some up when you visit.
Shoofly pie certainly helped put Dutch Haven on the map, but you may not know that it’s also Lancaster County’s largest Amish souvenir shop.
With a selection of more than 10,000 items, Dutch Haven sells a little bit of everything Amish – from jams and jellies to authentic Amish straw hats.
View days, hours, or place an order on the official website of Dutch Haven. Or, stop by the bakery’s Facebook page.
Do you agree that Dutch Haven has the best shoofly pie in the world? If not, who do you think does? Let us know in the comments! For some of the best whoopie pies in Pennsylvania, make a beeline for Bird-in-Hand Bakery.
