Tucked away in southern Oklahoma in the small town of Davis is the award-winning Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies. For over 30 years, this bakery has been making buttery, flaky pies from an old-age recipe passed down from the owner's grandmother. In fact, they are so delicious, you'll feel like grandma made them herself.
Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies has been drawing in visitors to its Davis location for more than 30 years, but the Arbuckle Mountain style pies have been around since 1893. They were created to feed hungry cowboys working out in the harsh winter weather.
Fast forward over a century and these delicious pies are still being made from the same recipe from the late 1800s. This place is now an award-winning bakery that feeds thousands of people on a daily basis.
Get in line when you arrive and take a look at the menu overhead. There are lots of options and you most likely won't be able to choose just one.
The crust on these fried pies is so fresh, it's as if grandma made you a homemade pie herself.
Every day, thousands and thousands of fried pies are made right there at the bakery.
And every fried pie is made by hand before making its way to you.
All the fillings are lined up which allows them to make 3 dozen pies in just 3 minutes. Choose from many different fruit options or go with a breakfast creation with meat and veggies.
After the dough is made and filled with flavor, it's folded over to make a semi-circle before being crimped by hand and a machine, before making its way to the fryer.
If you time it just right, you can score a warm one fresh out of the oven. If you're wondering what to order, try the best-selling apple pie... it's delicious.
Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies is located right off I-35 at Exit 51 in Davis. They are open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
