It's always fun to dine at a restaurant that has lived many lives throughout its history. There are several eateries in Cincinnati that are located within a historic building that wasn't always a restaurant, but now is an interesting place to enjoy a meal. Located on the east side of Cincinnati, Clough Crossings is a local favorite, family-owned restaurant with a delicious menu and friendly and unique atmosphere. This restaurant is actually housed inside a historic schoolhouse and you should definitely pay it a visit.
Clough Crossings is a family-owned restaurant located on Clough Pike, east of downtown Cincinnati. The origin of this eatery dates all the way back to 1925 when a woman named Flora Hess opened a restaurant. In 1943, she moved this restaurant to the old Clough Pike School, where it continued on for many years.
After many pubs, taverns, and restaurants took turns occupying the schoolhouse over the years, it was given a new life in 1997 by Gary Sammons. With a new paint job and a beautifully decorated interior that showcased the building's history, Clough Crossings is now a wonderful gathering place for hungry diners looking for a local spot to enjoy a meal.
The interior of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, as is the large patio area in the back. In both spaces, you're reminded of the history of the schoolhouse, while surrounded by the natural beauty of the property and the friendly nature of the restaurant.
The menu at Clough Crossings is filled with a delicious variety and has something for everyone. Choose whatever sounds good, from grilled pork chops to burgers, and more, and feel as if you're dining at a friend's house.
There are several scrumptious surprises on the menu and a few seasonal specials that are always worth a try. The drinks are also a specialty here, making this a good spot to meet up with friends or enjoy a date night.
In addition to the history of the property, dining at Clough Crossings is simply fun. During the warmer months and on nice days, you can putt around on the putting green while you wait for a table or after your meal, adding just another feature to this unique restaurant.
This historic schoolhouse has found a new life as Clough Crossings and the neighborhood has had their cravings satisfied for 25 years. If you have yet to try this local gem, head on over and give it a try.
