Cleveland's Polish heritage is well-documented. From our annual citywide Dyngus Day celebration to the namesake of our trademark sandwich, the Polish Boy, the Forest City is heavily inspired and influenced by our Polish ancestors to this day. Pierogies remain a favorite appetizer, snack food, or entire meal for many Clevelanders. These nine restaurants have been serving some of the most delicious pierogies in Cleveland for years, and they seem to get better with each and every business.
1. Great Lakes Brewing Company (2516 Market Ave)
Not only is Great Lakes Brewing Company Cleveland's most beloved beer garden, but its pierogies are truly out-of-this-world. There's nothing more quintessentially Cleveland than sipping a Dortmunder Gold and chowing down on a freshly-made Great Lakes pierogi.
2. Sophie's Choice Pierogi Co. (4631 Turney Rd)
Located inside another Cleveland staple; Peter's Market; Sophie's has been serving up delicious homestyle pierogies for over 30 years.
3. Sokolowski's University Inn (1201 University Rd)
Sokolowski's University Inn is a Cleveland staple. This amazing family eatery has been serving the Forest City authentic Polish and Eastern European food since 1923. Of course, the fact that you can get a dozen of their out-of-this-world pierogies hot and fresh for $8.95 only sweetens the deal.
4. Pierogi Palace (West Side Market) [1979 W 25th St)
This incredible spot is tucked away among the dozens of stalls that make up Cleveland's legendary West Side Market. Cooked fresh on-site, it's hard to feel more like a Clevelander than when you're snacking on these Polish treats inside the century-old market.
5. Old City Libations (6706 Detroit Avenue)
Old City Libations is a favorite haunt for Cleveland's nightlife, but what many might not realize is that this European-inspired bar offers so much more than a robust cocktail menu. Their pierogies are particularly good, and add a gourmet twist to a simple classic.
6. Hofbrauhaus Cleveland (1550 Chester Ave)
Hofbrauhaus is the closest thing to an authentic German beer garden you'll find in northeast Ohio, making it an amazing exotic dining experience just miles from downtown Cleveland. The pierogies here are exceptional, and you can wash down that savory goodness with a pilsner of imported German ale.
7. Seven Roses (6301 Fleet Ave)
Two words: Pierogi. Buffet. This European bakery, deli and restaurant offers Polish lunch buffets that include bottomless pierogies for a reasonable price, making it one of Cleveland's best bangs for your buck.
8. Das Schnitzel Haus (5728 Pearl Rd)
While schnitzel might be in the name, the pierogies could very well be the star of the show at this German-inspired Cleveland eatery. From traditional European recipes to some interesting regionally flavored options, the pierogies at Das Schnitzel Haus are worth the visit.
9. Red Chimney (6501 Fleet Ave)
Red Chimney is a fantastic European family-friendly restaurant just a few blocks from the heart of downtown. To top it all off, their pierogies are truly something special: freshly-made, stuffed with savory fillings, and delicious every time.
