North Dakota isn't exactly the hub of great Mexican food. It's pretty far from the border, after all. But there are a surprising amount of good places to grab authentic, delicious meals scattered all over the state. And no, I'm not talking about Taco Johns!
One of the most surprising spots that has a fantastic Mexican restaurant is in a small town famous for something entirely different. Some people say this place has the best Mexican food in the entire state. Why not try it for yourself? Check it out:
This town, population 2,815, is in the upper central region of North Dakota...
... And right in the middle of the entire continent of North America. Rugby is known as the geographical center of the continent consisting of Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
There is a large obelisk in Rugby to commemorate this spot with flags of each country. People have traveled quite a ways just to see it and say they've been there.
Included in this special place is a sign showing the distance from the furthest places on the continent from this spot. That includes the distance to the city of Acapulco on the southern edge of Mexico.
If you pan over just a little ways to the left from the obelisk, you'll find the restaurant we're talking about. The Mexican flag is pretty fitting in this case!
The restaurant is the Rancho Grande, the best place to grab an authentic dish that will have you coming back for more.
Their mouthwatering food comes in huge portions and is made to perfection every time. They have it all - tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and the list goes on. They even have steaks. When you're hungry for Mexican food, this is the place you need to go to.
A fantastic restaurant in a cool location, even if you weren't expecting it. How awesome is that?
