If you're feeling up for a road trip and love tacos, then this taco trail in eastern North Dakota is a match made in heaven for you. Take a drive through the Red River Valley and hit up some of the best taco spots in the state. These unique and classic places serve up the tastiest grub in a soft or hard shell and are well worth the time on the drive to try them all.
This North Dakota Taco Trail will take you through part of eastern and central North Dakota along a route of great taco shops and restaurants.
This mini-road trip is about 4 hours driving time in length from start to finish. You could do it in either direction, but to start we'll begin in Wahpeton, ND and go through till finishing in Devils Lake, ND. For the full driving directions on how to follow this trail, click here.
We'll begin at the colorful El Toro Mexican Restaurant in Wahpeton.
El Toro serves up authentic Mexican cuisine which, of course, includes some epic tacos. After munching down on their taco options, we'll head off to our next destination.
After heading north and reaching Fargo we'll be stopping at the Vinyl Taco, one of the most unique taco shops in North Dakota.
Vinyl Taco serves up yummy street-style tacos while playing great tunes on actual vinyl records all day long. Once you're done listening to some classics and enjoying their delicious tacos, onward we go!
We'll continue to head north on I-29 before taking a detour to a hidden gem in the charming town of Mayville, North Dakota - La Cantina.
Load up on their scrumptious tacos and other Tex-Mex options and you certainly won't regret it. They have plenty of fantastic options and you won't leave feeling hungry, but you better be ready for more taco goodness at our next stop.
Back onto I-29 and continuing northbound, you'll eventually hit Grand Forks and discover their most famous taco spot: Red Pepper.
Red Pepper is an unusual restaurant, to say the least. They boast that they don't have any forks, only spoons, and have grinder sandwiches that are so big they fall off the plate. But what they are most known for is their absolutely awesome tacos!
And finally, for our last stop, you'll head west towards Devils Lake and end up at the Charras & Tequila restaurant.
You'll definitely be tempted by their tasty menu of tacos and other great Mexican food options. They have tons of taco salads, plain tacos, tacos with all the fixings, and so on. It's a great final destination for all things tacos!
What other spots would you add onto the taco trail in North Dakota? There are certainly tons of great places, like this one you wouldn't expect to find right at the center of the continent - literally!
