It's surprising what you might find in the smallest, emptiest looking towns. Restaurants don't have to be located in big cities to be good or to have a fine dining atmosphere. It will likely take you a bit of traveling to get to the place we're going to cover today, but it is more than worth it. The food alone is deserving of the miles. Let's take a drive out to this small town out in the middle of nowhere and see what it has to offer!
Way out in the southwest corner of North Dakota, on the very edge of the Little Missouri National Grassland, is a tiny town that not many people know about.
Back in the 1930s it was an oil boom town and at peak population over 5,000 people lived here. It's called Marmarth, North Dakota.
Today, only 136 people live there. Many empty buildings from its hay day still stand, but only a few are still occupied.
Out of these buildings, one of them is one of North Dakota's oldest theaters, the Mystic Theater. It was built in 1914.
Right next door to the Mystic Theater is an amazing restaurant you wouldn't expect in such a remote place: the Pastime Club & Steakhouse.
This isn't your typical small town restaurant, it has the most delicious, homemade food in a fine dining atmosphere. They have everything from burgers...
... To fancy pastas, as well as steaks of course! They even have options like escargot for appetizers, believe it or not! The Pastime Club is truly a hidden gem, far from any major city but once you've tried their food, you'll see why the journey to Marmarth was worth it.
The Pastime Club & Steakhouse is located at 118 N Main Street, Marmarth, ND 58643.
If you can't go out all the way to this remote place (though it is definitely a trip you should make at least once if you can), you can find more steakhouses in North Dakota right here!
