Dining out in North Carolina doesn't always mean traveling to one of the bigger towns (or cities!) to feast on a delicious, gourmet meal. We've selected nine small town restaurants that serve some of the best steaks in the Tar Heel State. Are you ready for a mouthwatering meal?

1. Plank Road Steak House - Farmville

Combine your mouthwatering steak with a bit of local history in this locally owned restaurant in downtown Farmville, home of the Old Plank Road. It's located at 3689 E Wilson St., Farmville, NC 27828, and open Wednesday through Saturday for dinner beginning at 5:00 p.m.

2. Old Country Club Steak House - Roxboro

Open since 1970, this lakeside iconic eatery serves up the best steaks in the county. The salad bar pairs perfecting with the steaks, which are cooked to perfection every time. Find it at 555 Community House Rd., Roxboro, NC 27574. It's open Sunday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday - Thursday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday -Saturday 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

3. Stonewalls - Banner Elk

Delicious, small town, upscale dining in a rustic (yet modern) atmosphere. Stonewalls specializes in prime rib, seafood, and gourmet steaks paired with exceptional service. It's located in historic downtown Banner Elk at 344 Shawneehaw Ave. S, Banner Elk, NC 28604. The hours are seven days a week for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Note: it will be closed for remodeling from 3/25/19 through 4/15/19.)

4. Binion's Roadhouse - Hendersonville

Hendersonville isn't tiny, but it's also not a huge city in comparison to some in the Tar Heel State. And Binion's Roadhouse is a destination all on its own. The steaks are the main attraction (and they're amazing) but you'll also love all the cowboy bling that adorns both the inside and outside of this roadside eatery. Find it at 1565 4 Seasons Blvd., Hendersonville, NC 28792. It's open Monday - Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday/Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

5. Linebergers Steakhouse - Sherrills Ford

You won't leave hungry from Linebergers. Their steak selections include a wide variety of options, including signature steaks like The Cowboy, The Cajun Sizzler, The Rio Grande, and more. It's located at 6747 E Nc 150 Hwy., Sherrills Ford, NC 28673. The hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

6. The Boundary House - Calabash

In a town of fewer than 1,000 people, The Boundary House is quite a large restaurant. But that's just all the more room for you, your family, and all the delicious food you'll order! You'll discover the steaks on the menu here are every bit as great as the seafood selections. Choose a surf and turf combo and enjoy the best of both worlds! It's located at 1045 River Rd., Calabash, NC 28467. The hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday/Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

7. The Woodshed Steakhouse - Stanley

The picturesque Main Street in tiny Stanley, North Carolina includes train tracks running right down the middle of the road — and a row of shops only steps away. The Woodshed Steakhouse serves steaks in what they call "Little Big Horn style." We're sure that means something delicious! Find out for yourself at 210 S Main St., Stanley, NC 28164. It's open Tuesday - Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

8. Middleburg Steak and Seafood House - Middleburg

We love the rustic log cabin atmosphere of this surf and turf eatery located by Kerr Lake. From rib eye to filet mignon and prime rib, order it cooked just the way you like and devour every last bite. It's located at 7139 Broad St., Middleburg, NC 27556. The hours are Thursday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

9. Riverside Steak & Seafood - Swansboro

Prepare for surf and turf that tastes as great as it looks in this photo! This coastal eatery is only steps from the water and a short distance from the ocean. It's open seven days a week: Sunday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday/Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Find it at 506 W Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584.
