North Carolina is home to more than 400 vineyards and 200 wineries, according to ncwine.org. From high-altitude wineries to those found in the Piedmont and along the Coastal regions of North Carolina, one big thing the vineyards and wineries all have in common is beautiful (and varied!) views. If you've never ventured out in the Tar Heel State in search of a regional wine tasting experience, then you're in for a delightful treat.
An established vineyard and boutique winery in the rolling hills of North Carolina.
The Silver Fork Vineyard, located in the rippling hills of the Piedmont and just to the southeast of Morganton, is a fantastic place to start. The modest tasting room, coupled with the smooth and easy vibes found here, are a welcoming atmosphere in which to spend an afternoon or evening sampling the wines created from the vineyard's selection of Old World European style grapes such as their Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vineyard dates back to 1992, when the original owner planted the first vines. In 2012, new owners (Jennifer and Ed) added the tasting room and winery.
Bordeax-style wines and delicious farm to table food.
A visit to Silver Fork doles out not only glass after glass of Bordeaux style wines, but also views of the the gorgeous South Mountains. Sip on a glass of your favorite, sample the bites from their Fork to Table menu, and relax in the soothing setting of this Piedmont winery. The rustic elegance of the tasting room and patio are both casual and majestic and offer a variety of sitting areas, including a covered patio, a cozy fire pit, and a gazebo.
