Up for a little adventure? Sure you are! Especially when the payoff involves finding a scrumdiddlyumptious little restaurant out in the middle of nowhere, right? You'll instantly fall in love with this landmark destination restaurant that is located next to a historically popular natural spring in North Carolina.
Editor's Note: Unfortunately, since the time of publication this restaurant has since closed.
And getting there is half the fun. Just look at these views you'll see along the way!
The Shatley Springs Inn and Restaurant is located on a tiny little offshoot dirt and gravel road. You get there by taking NC-16 from just north of Jefferson enroute to the Virginia state line, and then by forking left onto Shatley Springs Road. It really is way out in the country.
But it is totally worth every effort to get there. The restaurant and country store are akin to days gone by, with simpler times and friendly faces.
For well over a century, folks have touted the healing properties of the water from Shatley Springs. In 1890, Martin Shatley was the first to spread the word after he experienced his own miracle from drinking the water here.
Be sure to visit the spring when you head to this eatery. It's clearly marked making it easy to find the spot.
Some say the food at Shatley Springs Restaurant has the same magical properties as the spring.
We're not sure if that's true, but you can bet your plate will be overflowing with goodness. The portion sizes are notoriously hearty! And the food is always delicious and good.
There's a unique flair to this unassuming little country restaurant which also has other assorted things to do. In season, you'll find a fruit stand as well as live music playing from the band stand.
The same unassuming quirkiness found outside, flows neatly into the decor found inside this eatery. It's super clean and tidy, and you definitely won't get bored in the reception area.
The comfy and casual atmosphere make this a come-as-you-are enjoyable experience you won't find at just any restaurant.
And the plates are packed to the rim with goodness... making this one of the best doggone restaurants you will have been to in a long, long time.
This next part is super important: This eatery sometimes closes for part of the winter season. If planning visit during the winter, be sure to give them a call at (336) 982-2236 or visit their website or Facebook page for updates. Shatley Springs Inn and Restaurant is located just 9.2 miles north of West Jefferson. Their address is 407 Shatley Springs Rd., Crumpler, NC 28617.
