With summer winding down, it's only natural to start planning for the (not so) cooler months ahead. Sure, fall might be hiding out until October, but many of us are already in the mindset to make the most of the season including planning trips and outings and also embracing 'festival season' including apples, kites, and of course, seafood.
Each year the Crystal Coast sees an influx of tourists and seafood lovers for the annual North Carolina Seafood Festival. In its 30th year, the waterfront of Morehead City becomes a dazzling array of food and drink vendors, live music, rides, and of course, some of the best seafood you'll find.
The free two-day festival, takes place the first weekend of October and draws a total of 200,000 people. It was also selected as on the of the Top 20 Festivals & Events in the Southeast.
Perfect for seafood (and food) lovers, between vendors and chef-demonstrations visitors get to try a little bit of everything when it comes to seafood. The 'Cooking With Chefs' event provides attendees an up close and personal demonstration from various local chefs each hour on the hour.
There's also the "Cooking Challenge" described as, "Eight prestigious chefs throughout the state select a secret seafood and create mouthwatering dishes for a panel of four judges. The final two competitors will battle to win the coveted Chefs Hat award!"
While seafood is the main event they also come for live musical performances, sailing regatta, a road race, pier fishing tournament and the beloved Outer Banks Boat Show.
The whole weekend offers plenty of family-friendly fun and delicious seafood. In its 30th year, the anniversary festival promises to be a special one.
Have you attended the North Carolina seafood festival before? I can't wait to dig in to some fresh crab and shrimp this year!
