Many times being a food lover coincides with a love of cooking - to make delicious dishes and whip up recipes to be enjoyed. For many food lovers though, they crave somewhere that's a step above a grocery store, even a bit more inventive and organized than a farmer's market. This is where 'markets' come to play: small grocery store-like businesses that usually also serve food along with a wide array of purchasable provisions. One such place that really excels at this concept is Foster's Market in Durham.
Described as a 'gourmet food market and cafe,' Foster's provides an array of selections from canned, take-home goodies, to purchases like baked goods and a mix of cold pastas and salads. There's also an entire sit down menu with a dining area.
If it's your first time, take a minute to stroll through the options. The chocolate sections is incredible as well as the homemade jams and jellies. From casseroles to desserts, everything here is made from scratch and it's easy to believe that after one bite.
The atmosphere has been described as 'cozy casual' but I also find it quite quaint and adorable - it truly is a tucked away little food mart just waiting to be discovered. Yet, many have already discovered just how phenomenal Foster's is for brunch.
From hearty omelets and breakfast burritos, to melt in your mouth pancakes - you might want to do some shopping at Foster's but also give their brunch a chance. For your meal, you order and pay at the counter, then they take it to you once you've found a table. Favorites include the grit bowl, biscuit breakfast sandwich and even avocado toast.
One neat aspect Foster's offers is the 'family dinner service.' You'll pay $100 for a variety of dishes to take home and that can easily last you (and your family) a week. From being an amazing marketplace, weekend brunch spot, or even a type of food-service to make life easier - Foster's is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise.
You can find Foster's Market at 2694 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC 27707.
Foster's is such a cool place that not enough people know about. Have you been here before? What are your thoughts on it? Any other marketplaces fellow foodies should know about?
