Buffalo's craft beer scene has seen some major action in the last few years, and we're definitely not complaining. Whether you're looking for a unique craft brew, a trendy atmosphere, or a good bite to eat, here are our top nine choices for local breweries and you'll definitely want to pay a visit.
1. Resurgence Brewing Company (1250 Niagara Street)
Come for the beer – stay for the atmosphere! Resurgence has a large selection of brews and ample seating both indoors and out for gatherings big and small. Head outside to the patio for a bonfire with your beer, or stay indoors to partake in favorite backyard-style games such as corn hole and giant Jenga.
2. Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron Street)
Big Ditch beckons from the corner of E. Huron and Ellicott with their bold light display. When the weather warms, you'll find patrons dining al fresco on the sidewalk, practically luring you in after a long day of work. This brewery's food menu is just as impressive as their drink selections: grab the Breuben and a beer to leave completely satisfied.
3. 12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive, Williamsville)
12 Gates is a bit of a trip north of the city, but trust us (and your GPS!), their beer selection is worth the drive. Although its location is a bit off the beaten path, buy yourself a flight and grab a bite from the brewery menu (we suggest the Bavarian pretzels and loaded nachos) and you'll be glad you stopped by.
4. Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Avenue)
Thin Man Brewery offers one of the area's only rooftop dining (and drinking) experiences. Located on Elmwood Avenue, the brewery has an impressive menu and over a dozen beer selections, from IPAs and pale ale to sours and lagers. Sipping a cold one while people-watching on Elmwood? Sign us up!
5. Hydraulic Hearth (716 Swan Street)
Head to the historic Larkin District for brick oven pizzas and wash it down with beers brewed in-house at Hydraulic Hearth. Whether you're going for happy hour, dinner, or a boozy brunch, you'll find something to love at this brewery!
6. Pan American Grill & Brewery (391 Washington Street)
Pan American Grill & Brewery is located in Buffalo's Central Business District, making it a hot spot for happy hours and the infamous "liquid lunch." The brewery is decorated in a 1900s style, highlighting the rich history of the former Lafayette Tap Room.
7. 42 North Brewing Company (25 Pine Street)
42 North is one of the area's newest breweries to hit the craft beer scene. This hops hot spot is located in East Aurora, about a 30 minute drive from downtown Buffalo. 42 North offers a farm fresh menu with locally sourced food favorites as well as six core beers and seasonal varieties available in their taproom.
8. Flying Bison Brewing Company (840 Seneca Street)
Flying Bison is one of the longest-standing breweries in Buffalo, and they've definitely made a name for themselves. Flying Bison offers four flagship beers and several seasonal and special offer varieties. If you're curious about how this bottling brewery works, you're in luck! They offer tours of their facilities on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
9. Ellicottville Brewing Company (28 Monroe Street, Ellicottville)
"EBC," as the locals call it, is one of the most well-known breweries in Western New York. Although Ellicottville Brewing Company is located about an hour outside the city limits in Ellicottville, traveling to ski country is always well worth your while when you can get your hands on a refreshing blueberry beer and EBC's delicious food menu items. In addition to the Ellicottville flagship location, you can also enjoy a brewski from EBC in Fredonia and Bemus Point!
