They say if it isn't broke then don't fix it, so it should come as no surprise to hear that at Only In New York, we love uncovering and highlighting our state's oldest attractions. Long-standing and ready to show you a whole new side of our state, all around us you can find everything from the oldest continually operating brewery to the oldest 5 & 10 in the United States - Woah! For those who are ready to explore more of New York's history, then you're going to be amazed to hear what's new at this historic location in the East Village.
All throughout the city of New York, you'll find historic establishments that have been up and running for generations upon generations of our residents but today we're going to show you a special piece of history - McSorley's.
McSorley's Old Ale House is considered to be the oldest Irish pub in all of America, quenching the thirsts of any New Yorker since 1854.
Over the course of history, famous folks from Teddy Roosevelt to John Lennon are said to have come into McSorley's.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, business has not been as usual here at McSorley's, with the latest closing (that came after all of New York's bars and restaurants shut down) was the longest the bar’s ever experienced within its 166-year long history.
That’s right! Even staying open during the Civil War and the Spanish flu, with only a couple of weeks throughout time ever seeing McSorley’s closed, the current pandemic has resulted in one major change and that's that McSorley's is now operating for take-out and growlers to-go.
Filling one and half-gallon size growlers, New Yorkers can once again grab their favorite ales to-go from McSorley's - also offering a food menu between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Yummy!
