It's true, as residents of New York we frequently find ourselves feeling bitter towards our famous big city. Maybe it's the fact that we can't tell an out-of-towner that we're from New York without them jumping to the conclusion that we're from the Big Apple. Nonetheless, there's no denying the there are plenty of amazing attractions here, many of which have managed to remain hidden. Because you can never know too many good places to eat, here's one unbelievable restaurant in New York that will transport you through time:
Residing right in the famous Bloomingdales flagship store, hides a unique restaurant on the 6th floor!
Walk to the end of the housewares department where you'll find a sign directing you towards the Le Train Bleu restaurant.
The experience quickly begins with a trip up some carpeted stairs, bringing you to a narrow hallway that gives you a taste of what's to come.
Once you step inside, you'll instantly feel like you've entered another charming and nostalgic world.
The restaurant itself may be tiny, but compared to the actual size of a train car, it is much larger. If you're worried about where you'll find space to put your purse or other belongings, have no worries! Like your typical train car, Le Train Bleu features overhead baggage storage where you can keep your things.
Vintage lamps and mahogany are featured all over the inside of the restaurant. Le Train Bleu is modeled after the famous French luxury train that began operating in 1886.
Originally known as the Calais-Mediterranée Express, Marvin S. Traub (President of Bloomingdales) created the restaurant in 1979 and modeled its decor and atmosphere after the famous train.
While it's easy to quickly find yourself wrapped up in the beautiful and vintage French decor, you mustn't forget what it is you came here for...the food!
The remarkable restaurant is open every day from 10:30AM until 5PM, excluding Sunday and Thursday. Sunday hours are from 11:30AM to 4PM and Thursday hours are 10:30AM to 7PM.
Le Train Bleu has remained a hidden gem over the years. If you have heard of this vintage restaurant, it's most likely because their menu is out of this world.
All the servers at this hidden Bloomingdales restaurant wear classic white jackets, elevating your experience. Pictured above you can see one of the best things to try at Le Train Bleu, their quiche! Offered all throughout the day, this dish will happily fill you up.
Many of our residents make this their go-to spot for grabbing brunch, which is a wise decision we fully support.
Wondering what you should try for brunch while you're here? We suggest you give the Le Train Bleu Brunch Burger a shot, or even the Petrossian Smoked Salmon!
Looking to stop by later in the day for the perfect lunch? No problem!
We may have a sweet spot for the brunch menu, but let's talk about the flavorful lunch menu you'll find before your eyes at Le Train Bleu! Pictured above you can see the Le Train Bleu Burger, a favorite for those who make a habit out of coming here for lunch. Another dish you should save room for? The caramelized onion soup!
A truly amazing dining experience, we still can't get over how this gem is hiding right in a department store!
