Luna Mansion isn’t the kind of place you stumble upon by accident. It’s tucked away in the village of Los Lunas, roughly 25 miles south of Albuquerque. But whatever part of the state you’re traveling from, rest assured that a meal at this restaurant is worth the journey.

This destination steakhouse is housed in the historic Luna Mansion, a beautiful setting in which to enjoy a superb meal. Those celebrating a special occasion are drawn to this fine dining restaurant by the attentive service, high quality food, and rumors of an in-house ghost!

The mansion is truly one of a kind. This architectural style is known as Victorian Southern Colonial. When it was built, the house was ahead of its time – if Zillow had existed, everyone would have been saving this home as a favorite, due to its walk-in closets and wine cellar.

As you explore the mansion, keep an eye out for the fireplace screen. No, really. It was a gift from Rudolph Valentino!

Stop in at the Spirit Lounge for a cocktail – there’s an extensive menu of them. You’ll notice one drink called Josefita’s Spirit. Josefita’s ghost is supposed to haunt the mansion. In fact, that’s how the Spirit Lounge gained its name.

Josefita Otero was born in 1874 and passed away in 1951. As the mistress of this house, she oversaw many of Luna Mansion’s renovations and even painted some of the art you see. Since the 1970s, when the home was converted into a restaurant, Josefita has been spied in several locations throughout the mansion. People claim to have seen her spirit appear in the attic, in second floor bedrooms, and also in the rocking chair that sits at the top of the stairs.

The menu here is a combination of surf and turf.

The beef is local, and steaks are aged for 21 days. Just about every cut and size of steak you could want is available, from a 6-ounce filet to a 22-ounce porterhouse.

How often do you get to live the high life and dine on steak in a legit mansion?

The dessert menu is small but tasty. The key lime pie is particularly good.

The Luna Mansion is located at 110 W. Main Street in Los Lunas. Reservations are recommended – you don’t want to drive all the way out here and find that the restaurant is full.

Perhaps you don’t have a special occasion on the horizon or just favor a more casual environment. If so, consider eating at the Spirit Lounge rather than in the main dining room. A bar menu is available – the shrimp wontons are delicious.

Tip: If you’re able to, visit near Christmas, when the holiday decorations transform the mansion into a magical place.
