New Jersey has so many unique restaurants, from dining rooms in train cars to the opportunity to eat in a vault, that you'll never be bored dining in the Garden State. I've covered countless gems, but here's a one-of-a-kind eatery with a menu unlike most others in America.
Clydz is a speakeasy-style restaurant and bar that's actually located underground.
You descend the stairs to enter a cozy, welcoming environment that feels both old and new.
Modern, yet reminiscent of an era long gone.
The brick walls and rich brown hues bring warmth and charm into the basement level space.
You'll also find fish tanks and fireplaces that add to the atmosphere.
But, there are several speakeasies in New Jersey (many quite wonderful). So, what makes this place stand out?
The menu offers some exotic selections you can't find at many other restaurants. Pictured is Alligator In A Blanket.
On this plate alone you'll find (from left to right) antelope, wild boar and kangaroo. Another option? Braised Python Ravioli.
Of course, there's something for everyone. Reviewers rave about the lobster mac n' cheese, strip steak, veggie risotto, roasted organic chicken and fantastic flatbreads.
And the drink menu is extensive as well. Try the Chocolate Martini, Apple Pie and almost anything else you can imagine.
Their slogan is "creative food and drink" and they definitely live up to that promise. To visit, head to: 55 Paterson Street, New Brunswick. Score deals on drinks and apps during happy hour or enjoy dinner with friends. For more fantastic places to dine in the Garden State, check out: The 12 Places You Should Eat In New Jersey In 2017.
