While some of us prefer takeout, many Garden Staters are seeking outdoor dining options this summer. There are quite a few restaurants to choose from and today, we're featuring a few favorites. They range from casual to upscale and feature a variety of cuisines. You'll find them below, in no particular order.
1. The Windlass, Lake Hopatcong
Every table has views of the lake at this waterfront restaurant with contemporary Italian and Continental cuisine. There's something for everyone on their menu, which includes both sushi and wood-fired pizza.
2. Carlucci's Waterfront, Mount Laurel
This gem on Rancocas Creek offers a picturesque patio and authentic Italian cuisine. They've been recognized for having some of the best seafood in South Jersey. You can also opt for curbside pickup or delivery.
3. HAVEN Riverfront Restaurant & Bar, Edgewater
Located along the Hudson River and offering incredible views of the New York City skyline, HAVEN was named "One of The World's 16 Most Spectacular Waterfront Restaurants" by Architectural Digest. You'll find a variety of modern American menu items including short rib bruschetta, truffle mac n' cheese, prime cut filet mignon, and seafood risotto. You'll also find a delicious weekend brunch!
4. Lambertville Station, Lambertville
This historic eatery and inn offers fine dining on the Delaware River. The former train station is now an upscale restaurant with award-winning cuisine. The menu is diverse and every dish features locally-grown and sourced ingredients.
5. Mott's Creek Inn, Galloway
Why drive to a restaurant when you can dock and dine at Mott's Creek Inn? Of course, driving is always an option. This restaurant serves up American eats in a laid back setting with wonderful views. Menu items include wings, burgers, dynamite shrimp, and delicious seared tuna tacos with mango de gallo.
6. Charrito's - Weehawken + Hoboken
This vibrant restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine, primarily inspired by many traditional favorites from Oaxaca. You'll find flavorful elotes, arrachera, and tampiqueña. You'll also find tacos, burritos, and fajitas with a variety of meats.
7. The World Famous Anchorage Tavern, Somers Point
This historic bayfront restaurant dates back to 1874. One of the oldest eateries in Somers Point, it was chosen as the "Best Local Restaurant" by The Atlantic City Press. They offer beef, poultry, pork, and seafood dishes, along with sandwiches, mouthwatering appetizers, and the delightful taco grande salad.
8. The Irving Inn Social - Rahway
Their chef's culinary vision is modern American gourmet comfort food done exceptionally well. They do not disappoint. Outdoor seating is limited and first-come, first-served, but takeout is also available. Menu options include lobster tacos with pineapple salsa, short rib fries, and homemade soft serve frozen hot chocolate ice cream. It's heavenly!
9. Steakouts Homeplate - Pittsgrove + Buena
The Pittsgrove location is pictured but both offer outdoor dining. You'll find a diverse menu with comfort food classics, craft beer, and fresh, local ingredients. Nearly every craving is covered with prime rib, baked ziti, burgers, veggie burgers, pizza, and plenty more. They're also leashed pet friendly.
10. Blue Pig Tavern - Cape May
Reserve your table for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and dine al fresco, either on their breezy porch, or on the beautiful veranda of Congress Hall. You'll find farm fresh meals here, along with a very special seasonal menu centered around Jersey tomatoes. Bring your valid military ID and enjoy a 15% discount on food for your entire table.
There's one more restaurant we'd like to add. For those in Sussex County and those willing to travel to Sussex County, there's a magical restaurant in the mountains whose outdoor dining is an absolute dream. Check out the Walpack Inn. While this list highlights a handful of delightful outdoor dining options in New Jersey (many with waterfront views), there are dozens of others that are worth a visit.
