Baked goods are a big deal in New Jersey. In fact, retail bakeries are at least twice as common in New Jersey than any other state, based on a 2015 Bureau of Labor Statistics Study. That year, there were 411 bakeries in the Garden State, employing nearly 4,000 people. Not only do we have the most bakeries, we've got the best bakeries. One that really stands out is Grateful Bites in Flemington.
A bakery, cafe and restaurant, Grateful Bites is operated by Ability2Work, a non-profit organization that trains the differently abled.
Eat Good. Feel Good. For Good. They absolutely exemplify their motto. One hundred percent of the profit helps to support the young adults they train.
But this isn't an eatery you stop at just to feel good and support a good cause. Their sweet treats are out-of-this-world.
From pastries to pies, everything is perfection.
And I don't use that world lightly.
Their custom cakes are a work of art.
They've even got a build-your-own ice cream sandwich bar with homemade ice cream and cookies.
There are plenty of options, including vegan and gluten-free choices. The menu offers something for everyone.
This bakery and cafe has won countless awards, and it's BYOB!
After dessert, you may consider grabbing a meal.
They serve the freshest breakfasts and lunches around. Meats are even cured and smoked in-house.
You can expect local, organic ingredients whenever possible.
And there's not a prettier place to eat than on their picturesque patio.
Grateful Bites is open Wednesday-Sunday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. (9 a.m. on Sundays). You'll find this incredible bakery, cafe and restaurant at 42 NJ-12 Flemington. I'm almost certain you'll fall in love. After one visit, it's almost impossible not to come back for more. For another mouth watering experience in New Jersey, check out this buffet.
