If you've lived in New Hampshire for awhile, you've no doubt heard of Chutters. Perhaps you've even sampled some of their treats. And although the classic candy store now has three locations in the state, a visit to the original building is an absolute must. Not only has it been in the same spot since the late 1800s, it happens to have the world's longest candy counter.
Chutters first appeared on Main Street in Littleton in the late 1800s.
The store's original owner, Frederick George Chutter, was a Congregational minister who came to Littleton to preach. Instead, he opened a dry goods store. Mr. Chutter was a kind, beloved member of the community, so over 100 years later, this shop still bears his name.
Cutters is still as popular as ever, in part because of their 112-foot long candy counter.
The candy counter really is the longest in the world -- they even have a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records to prove it.
Needless to say, the candy selection here is excellent.
In fact, you'll find more than 500 varieties on these shelves.
From jelly beans to gummy bears and candy corn (all year long), you'll find it all here.
This is a sugar lover's paradise.
And when you've finished exploring the candy counter, treat yourself to some homemade fudge.
The homemade fudge and chocolates are to die for.
Chutters is so popular, they now have locations in Lincoln and Bretton Woods.
However, their original location in Littleton is definitely the most popular.
Chutters is open daily, although their hours vary.
On Monday - Thursday, they're open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours are 9 - 6, and you can raid the candy counter from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday.
