Editor's Note: Since the time of publication, The Ice Cream Cafe and storefront closed. Fudge can still be ordered for pickup by arrangement or bought online.
For those of us with a sweet tooth, there's nothing better than fudge — except perhaps ice cream. Ideally with fudge sauce on top. You can have all of those things at New Hampshire's very own fudge factory, an absolutely charming spot in Bristol that you absolutely need to visit as soon as humanly possible.
The Mill Fudge Factory and Ice Cream Cafe is located in a 1767 grist mill (the oldest building in Bristol) right on the banks of the Newfound River — it's a must-visit stop on the way to Newfound Lake. It's received regional and national acclaim for its delicious fudge — even Paula Deen is a fan!
The indoor dining area not only overlooks the river but it's homey and absolutely charming.
Or, take your treats out on the deck and watch the river rush by. What could be better than a way to relax than spending an afternoon enjoying ice cream and watching the river?
Don't want a sugar rush before you've had a real meal? Luckily for you, there's a great selection of paninis, wraps, and salads to give you a savory fix before you go for dessert.
The espresso drinks are also fantastic — and of course, they pair perfectly with a fresh piece of fudge.
The real reason you came here is for the fudge. They have quite a wide selection, and every single flavor is scrumdiddlyumptious. With choices from the classic to the seasonal and exotic, the hard part is not trying them all!
True chocoholics will fall for the fudge truffles — yes, this means chocolate encased in more chocolate!
Looking to switch up your chocolate consumption? Their handmade toffee is off-the-charts good as well.
And if you're looking for the perfect gift for the faraway chocolate lovers in your life, we have good news — they ship!
Their ice cream, on the other hand, can only be found in the Bristol cafe. It's all made by hand in small batches with simple ingredients — so it tastes exactly as ice cream should.
You can create your own flavor with mix-ins of fruit, candy, and more, or go classic with a sundae. All of the fudge sauces are made from their own fudge, and you'll never be able to go back to the grocery store stuff once you've tried it. Luckily, you can buy jars to take with you! The hard part will be limiting the treats you walk away with since everything is so irresistible.
You can find the Mill Fudge Factory and Ice Cream Cafe at 2 Central St., Bristol, NH 03222. Check out their website for hours and to order fudge!
