The weather is warmer, the trails are waiting, and the road trips are about to get epic! That means more time in the car and it also means more time exploring what New Hampshire has to offer. Combine the best of everything by making sure you stop through Portsmouth to visit this spot for one of the best burgers in the state. It's convenient, fast, and offers some wonderful state history.
With beginnings as a humble food cart back in 1940, Gilley's Diner is a Portsmouth institution.
They moved to their current location in the early 1970s where things have remained pretty much the same for nearly 40 years.
Inside you'll find a casual eatery with a focus on the food rather than on decor.
And during the warmer months you might be able to find seating outside.
Whether you find room inside or need to head outside to eat, you're going to love these fresh, hand packed burgers
Especially if you're really hungry and have a good excuse to dig into a double cheeseburger.
Feeling extra fancy? Go for the double chili cheeseburger!
They also serve variations on the burgers in the form of this grilled cheesey steak. It comes on crispy buttered bread with melted cheese, grilled onions and tender steak.
Upgrade your entire meal by adding a hot dog!
Or better yet, make sure to get a side of Gilley's poutine made with potatoes from Fryeburg, Maine, Pineland Farm fresh cheese curds and homemade savory beef gravy.
Best of all? This meal won't set you back a ton of money. You can walk away full for about $6!
