There's a lot of history here in New Hampshire. But, before you stop reading and go to the next thing that might take your attention let's remember that not all history is dull! Today's history lesson comes to us in the form of candy and it couldn't be any sweeter. This shop is the oldest in the state and that means they've perfected the art of the sugar high!
The Granite State Candy Shoppe in Concord has been a part of the community since 1927. But the story begins long before that.
In 1909 Peter Bart came to in Lawrence, Massachusetts from the Greek Island of Lesvos. He began working as a candy maker to learn the trade and eventually made his way to Concord where he eventually opened this wonderful store.
Today the Bart family makes candy in the same tradition of their grandfather. In fact, many of the recipes, techniques and equipment are the same.
Voted as the best of the best for years, it's easy to see why this place is usually of candy-craving visitors!
The walls are lined with sugar, from hard candies to gummies to chocolates.
Their gourmet chocolate and homemade fudge can be ordered from the counter and put into a lovely little candy shop box.
They've perfected the art of chocolate and you can expect each piece to be hand dipped individually using a blend of premium chocolate.
When you see this you know you're in for a treat!
Of course you can always just grab a bag and help yourself! This part of the visit might be our favorite.
There's even a factory located right at the store.
Stop in to get some candy to go, or stay a while and enjoy one of their over-the-top milkshake concoctions.
And, there's still time to grab some fall and Halloween-themed goodies to go!
