These warm and wonderful days of summer have us thanking our lucky stars that we're in New Hampshire. There's no better place to be if you love forest, beaches, and all the outdoor activities you could possibly want. But with all that being outside comes the inevitable summertime craving. Ice cream! This little roadside spot has been offering not only ice cream, but also tasty and filling meals, for decades. You won't regret carving some time out to swing by and fill up!
Lone Oak in Rochester has been serving "homemade ice cream & wicked good food" since 1962. Their tagline says it all!
The name "Lone Oak" comes from the fact that the original land had just one Oak tree to be cleared when preparing to build this delicious spot.
And since the clearing of the land, not much has changed. This is still one of the best places to get homemade ice cream and piping hot food. The dedication to fresh ingredients and unique flavors has never wavered.
While a lot of New England ice cream spots serve homemade scoops, only Lone Oak uses an Emery Thompson batch freezer allowing them to churn out the creamiest, most flavorful stuff!
And their selection of toppings and mix-ins is large. They've got everything from the traditional sprinkles to nuts to ribbons of fudge and caramel.
They recently celebrated Christmas in July by offering tasty scoops of gingerbread ice cream and hot chocolate.
You can certainly stop by and get a simple cone or cup, but it's summer and that means treating yourself! Start with this banana split!
You can get them in 3 scoops or 5 scoops depending on just how much treating you want. Or you can get the brownie sundae, which is another great way to tell yourself "self, thank you for being great!"
Even the most devoted ice cream lover gets hungry for real food, which is why we love the full menu at Lone Oak. It includes some of the best lobster rolls you've ever had. Big, meaty pieces fill the bun and a side of fries completes the meal.
They've also got things like quarter pound angus burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and chicken tenders.
Lone Oak offers a way to enjoy the tastiest dog days of summer while also appreciating a little bit of New Hampshire history.
Lone Oak Ice Cream is open every day from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. You can learn more about their history and check out the menu through the website. Or, give them a follow on Facebook. They can be reached on 603-332-1809. Address: 175 Milton Road, Rochester, NH 03868.
If stopping at just one ice cream spot isn't enough, you'll want to take this road trip. The Mouthwatering Ice Cream Trail in New Hampshire is everything your ice cream loving soul has dreamed about!
