Right now in New Hampshire, it's so hot that you'd be excused for thinking you'd somehow been transported to the South. If you're going to suffer through temperatures more likely to be found in North Carolina or Texas, shouldn't you also enjoy the flavors of life below the Mason-Dixon Line? You might not have guessed it, but you can find some truly amazing barbecue here in New Hampshire, in some of the most unexpected places. You probably already know about the big barbecue restaurants in the Granite State, but you may not know about these hidden gems, which are some of the best BBQ restaurants in New Hampshire. In no particular order, here are 5 of the best hole in the wall BBQ restaurants in New Hampshire.
1. Smoke Shack Southern BBQ, Boscawen
This delightful spot in Boscawen doesn't get enough attention in our opinion – the food is great, plus they have an attached scoop shop for dessert! There's a small outpost at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and they cater as well. Easily worth a road trip from any corner of the state.
Address: 146 King Street, Boscawen, NH, 03303
2. Kirby's Q, Alstead
This spot may not look like much from the outside, but step through the door and you'll find the coziest little spot, complete with quilts hung all over the walls. The food is spectacular, especially the Texas brisket. The only thing better than the main course are the sides, which will make you fall in love after just one bite.
Address: 163 River Street, Alstead, NH, 03602
3. Huntspoint BBQ, Epping
This unassuming spot serves real-deal Texas style barbecue – the dry-rubbed ribs will keep you dreaming for weeks. The owners are pitmasters who've supplied meat for all sorts of competitions – they definitely know their stuff.

4. Arnie's Place, Concord
You may be familiar with Arnie's for their amazing ice cream, but this casual spot has great barbecue too. It's slow cooked for 18 hours for fall-off-the-bone flavor that will turn you into a customer for life.
Address: 164 Loudon Road, Concord, NH, 03301
5. Sweet Fire BBQ, Claremont
This low-key Claremont spot has built up a great reputation for its succulent meats and house-made rubs. Be sure to come hungry, the portions are massive!
