Sometimes dinner is better with a little added entertainment, and if you're brave enough, the entertainment at this haunted New Hampshire restaurant could be out of this world! It is said that the spirit of a colonial woman from the 1740s has haunted The Country Tavern in Nashua for years. Here's her story:
Since the 1980s, this old farmhouse has been home to The Country Tavern. But before that, it was home to a family ruled by lies, jealousy, cheating and murder..... a history that still haunts the restaurant today.
In 1741, Captain Ford built the house, bringing in his wife Elizabeth. However, Elizabeth was much younger than her husband, and his job was taxing, taking him out to sea for long periods of time. The marriage seemed doomed from the start.
When the captain returned from a year at sea to find that his wife had given birth, he was enraged. He locked Elizabeth in a closet, and killed the baby.
When he told her what he'd done, Elizabeth attacked her husband, but he was stronger. It is said that he stabbed her and threw her body down a well in the back of the house.
More than two hundred years later, Captain Ford's house has been converted into a popular pub and restaurant, but it is said that Elizabeth still wanders the building, looking for her lost child.
People in Nashua come to the Country Tavern for the great food, cold drinks and live music.
But sometimes, they get more than they bargained for. Workers have reported dishes moving and an uncomfortable presence.
There's only one way to find out for yourself if the tales are true... brave the Country Tavern for yourself.
The Country Tavern is located at 452 Amherst Street in Nashua. Get more information on the restaurant's website.
