Few things scream New England like an old-fashioned general store. Many are housed in their original structures, evoking curiosity about what life must have been like back when folks visited every day for their life necessities. When you walk inside them, you're quickly transported to a simpler life. A life when candy was served from jars and eggs were delivered fresh daily. This one is no exception.
Please note, The Brick Store is temporarily closed.
The Brick Store has been in business since the early 1790s, making it the Oldest Continuously Operated General Store in America! It was the town's post office until the 1940s and today you can still find some of the old post boxes inside.
Despite nearly shutting down in 2006, today they are alive and thriving!
Things inside look a lot like they did back in the day.
You'll find a lot of relics from its early days, but you'll also be able to find the things you actually need.
And by "things you actually need" we definitely mean candy.
The candy counter here offers tons of old-timey stuff as well as the new, fun candy kids want. But we're partial to their fudge.
It comes in a ton of varieties.
Including things like homemade vanilla nut fudge.
And don't forget the peanut butter chocolate fudge and maple nut fudge.
To balance out all that sweetness you'll want to swing by the deli counter for the smoked pepperoni that people love.
People come from far and wide to try it and many wish they lived closer to get it more often. Good thing you can order it online! We've included the website below, just in case.
From the ice cream parlor that's also inside to the New Hampshire gifts to bring home, this is a place you won't want to miss!
The Brick Store is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Learn more about the history of this fun store on their website and see more photos on Facebook. You can give them a call on 603-747-2074. Address: 21 Lisbon Road, Bath, NH 03740.
