There are plenty of fantastic restaurants to choose from in New Hampshire — so how are you ever supposed to decide which one to visit for dinner? That's when the location and ambiance comes in. Sometimes food alone is good enough, and sometimes you want somewhere that offers something extra — be it great views, amazing artwork, or some seriously cool history. The latter is what you'll find at the Old Courthouse Restaurant in Newport, which, as its name suggests, served a very different purpose before it served up amazing meals.
The building that houses the Old Court House Restaurant was constructed in 1826 to house the Superior Court for Sullivan County. It later became a public school before housing the district court, and eventually was transformed into a restaurant. It's even been added to the National Register of Historic Places!
The interior is cozy, old-fashioned, and charming — perfect for a date or a special night out.
The menu is fairly short, but everything in on it is carefully considered. Whether you choose meat or seafood, you're sure to find your meal beautifully presented and perfectly executed.
The lobster rolls are ridiculously good — the kind you usually only find in seafood shacks!
The steak is also amazing — the roasted garlic and onion butter topped off with perfect little onion rings makes it absolutely mouth-watering.
In addition to lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves up an absolutely scrumptious weekend brunch.
Just make sure you save room for dessert! The creme brulée, in particular, is unbelievably delicious.
You can find the Old Courthouse Restaurant at 30 Main St., Newport, NH. Check out their website for the menu and more history!
