Maple sugaring season is coming to a close in New Hampshire, but there's still time to enjoy the Granite State's liquid gold in it's ideal application – on pancakes. There's one sugarhouse in Westmoreland that you may not know about, but their maple syrup, and their restaurant, are absolutely extraordinary. If you haven't gone there, make sure to do so as soon as you can!
Stuart and John's Sugarhouse dates back to 1974, when two childhood friends (at the time, one was in 8th grade and the other in 10th) saved up and purchased an evaporator (they already had family in the business). Since then the sugaring operation has grown to an amazing restaurant as well as a retail and wholesale maple operation.
The maple syrup that they make here is second to none – and you can order it online any time of year.
During sugaring season, the real treat is to watch the maple syrup-making process. If you're lucky, they might even be serving up the coveted sugar on snow while you're there!
The real draw here though is the Sugar House restaurant, which is open on the weekends for breakfast and lunch in the spring and fall, and for breakfast, lunch, and dinner Thursday–Sunday, with a dairy-bar style window.
They even have a Cruise Night every Thursday during the summer, when classic cars from around the region come to enjoy good weather and good company.
As you'd imagine, the pancakes are extraordinary, particularly paired with the real maple syrup that comes with them – and it's unlimited! That's certainly not the norm at breakfast places anywhere, which really makes this place stand out.
Tired of the same old pancakes? Try the crepes here – they're stupendous!
Of course, if you prefer a savory breakfast there are plenty of options for you too.
But don't forget, this spot isn't just about breakfast! The burgers are absolutely extraordinary.
You can find Stuart & John's Sugarhouse at 31 Route 63 Westmoreland, New Hampshire.
