There are many wonderful things about the Great North Woods, but most of us don't think of the region as the place to go for European delicacies. It's time to question that assumption – as it turns out, you can get perfectly authentic and scrumptious French pastries all the way up in Colebrook. Better yet, the bakery has a heartwarming story that makes its treats all the sweeter.
Bakery owners Marc Ounis and Verlaine Daeron fell in love with Colebrook on a trip to New England in 2001, and came back the following year to open a bakery in the small town, which quickly became a community favorite and a beloved gathering place.
The bakery nearly closed in 2009 due to a visa renewal issue, but the people of Colebrook banded together to support the bakery and sent dozens of letters to the US Embassy in France – and lucky for Colebrook, they were successful in saving the bakery.
You'll find the best loaves of bread in the Granite State baked fresh here daily, including French baguettes, sourdough, walnut, and so many more.
Everything they sell is incredibly fresh and made with the highest-quality ingredients.
Their traditionally made Belgian chocolate far outshines any of the mass-market sweets you might be used to. You can get plain bars or treats with delightful mix-ins like coconut and goji berries.
Each cookie, tart, and pastry is utter perfection. The croissants absolutely cannot be missed.
Sit for a while on one of the comfortable couches and enjoy a delicate pastry while you read a magazine or the newspaper and you'll be transported to Paris.
You can find Le Rendez Vous at 121 Main St, Colebrook, NH 03576.
