Blackout "Dining in the Dark" is, hands down, the quirkiest restaurant in Nevada. What could be quirkier than enjoying a magnificent multi-course vegetarian/vegan meal in complete blackness? Take a look (pun intended.)
Blackout is located at 3871 S. Valley View Boulevard in Las Vegas.
Dining in total darkness amplifies your other senses, so the food will smell and taste even more delectable.
Any light-emitting devices such as cell phones are secured in a locker so as not to interfere with your (or other diners') completely dark sensory experience.
When you first arrive, you are greeted by the staff who explain the whole experience to you and answer any questions you may have.
This is where you discuss any food allergies you might have before selecting from your choice of a sweet, spicy, or savory menu.
The interior is as unique as the whole concept.
These aprons are for those like me who would make a complete mess eating in the dark. The sunglasses are provided after the meal to let diners' eyes adjust, and they do emit a very Men in Black vibe, don'tcha think?
Here's the yummy drink menu; truly, the only part of your meal you get to choose.
Here's one of the delicious courses.
Actually, this is what all of your courses will look like. Seriously, though, Blackout promises that "each deliciously robust course offers a symphony of flavors and has been beautifully created to entice the taste buds and awaken the senses." Thus, the menu is rather hush-hush and changes every three months to allow and encourage diners to try foods they may not have eaten before.
This is probably the best preview of the dining area.
In case you were wondering, servers don some pretty nifty night-vision goggles to be able to serve diners their delicious courses.
The menu changes quarterly, and the meals are prix-fixe. Children age 13 and up are welcome; however, there is no special menu.
Blackout is open everyday from 12 p.m. until 11 p.m. Reservations for this quirky restaurant in Nevada are highly recommended. For more information, or to make reservations, please call (702) 960-4000 or visit their website.
