Have you ever woken up so ravenous that you could polish off at least two breakfasts' worth of food? Next time your hungry belly demands a huge amount of food, take it to Leo's Diner in Omaha's historic Benson neighborhood. This classic diner serves some of the biggest breakfasts (and lunches) you'll ever see.
Leo's has been an Omaha favorite for more than 60 years. Its iconic sign is an integral part of the Benson landscape, and the smells that waft out as you walk by are sure to make your mouth water.
Follow those delicious aromas inside and you'll find a bright, cheery diner with a decidedly retro vibe. Choose a stool at the bar for a classic diner experience...
...Or slide into a booth so you and your companions can enjoy some conversation as you eat.
There are even little jukeboxes on the walls that will remind you of decades past.
Take a look at the daily specials board as you walk in. There are some outstanding meals up there that you won't find on the regular menu.
No matter what you decide to order, you can bet that it will be hearty, delicious, and cooked to perfection.
Go with a classic eggs Benedict or a simple pancake combo, or try one of Leo's famous chicken fried steak platters.
But if your appetite is really out of control, nothing will satisfy quite like one of the "Island" plates.
The Island and The Fantasy Island are on the regular menu, and they are massive. They both start with a base of hash browns and a layer of biscuits and gravy, and they're topped with two eggs cooked in your favorite style.
The Fantasy Island adds diced peppers, onions, tomatoes, bacon, ham and sausage. At only a dollar more than The Island, this meal is totally worth the upgrade.
Other "Island" creations cycle through on the specials board, so keep an eye out every time you visit. You'll want to try this impressive breakfast in every one of its iterations.
If you're ravenous but don't have time to linger over coffee and conversation, you can get your meal to go. Don't worry - the food is just as delicious even without the old-school diner setting.
Leo's may be best known for its breakfasts, but it offers delectable lunch selections as well. Sink your teeth into a huge burger or savory sandwich, and don't forget the side of onion rings!
The service is quick and always comes with a smile. You'll sport a huge smile too when you see your plates heaped with food and headed your way from the kitchen.
