The stroopwafel is a Dutch delicacy, and they're practically impossible to get in the U.S. But don't worry, a couple of locals learned the secret to perfecting the art of the stroopwafel, and now you can enjoy them right here in Montana.
Caramel Cookie Waffles is located in the heart of Billings, on 17th Street West.
And although this place has been around for a decade, many Montanans have no idea it exists.
Inside you'll find a small bakery counter and a little indoor seating.
This place is warm, welcoming, and always inviting.
It all started when Jan Boogman, who was born and raised in Utrecht, the Netherlands, decided he wanted to bring the delicacy of the stroopwafel to America. Stroopwafels are a traditional Dutch treat from the city of Gouda
Jan ran track as a young adult, and that's how he met his wife, Judy, a born-and-raised Montanan. The two of them decided to make the stoopwafel more accessible.
Jan and Judy decided to being the stroopwafel to America (and specifically, to Montana).
Needless to say, it did not take long before the locals realized how fantastic the stroopwafel is.
By definition, a stroopwafel is a wafer cookie made from two thin layers of baked dough joined by a caramel filling.
If you think that description sounds good, you should try the finished product. The stroopwafel is absolutely delicious.
