Montana is certainly a state full of readers -- we actually have more bookstores per capita than any other state, and we host the Montana Book Festival each year in Missoula (the 2020 event will be online), so it comes as no surprise that in the little city of Lewistown, one of the most popular places to hang out is Rising Trout Cafe and Bookstore.
This beloved bookstore and cafe is located on West Main Street in Lewistown, where it has been for over a decade.
This warm, inviting cafe is irresistible even from the street.
Step inside and you'll find beautiful local art, shelves of books available for purchase, and a full cafe.
No matter what time of day it is, you'll probably be greeted by the unmistakable smell of fresh coffee. It's roasted in-house.
Treat yourself to a new favorite book, a piping hot beverage, and a snack and hang out at one of the cafe tables.
If you're still more comfortable getting your treats to-go, the team is happy to accommodate you.
The Rising Trout Cafe is committed to using organically grown and locally sourced grains, vegetables, and meats.
We grow some of the best food on Earth here in Montana, and it makes for some delightful meals.
The freshly baked pastries here are to die for.
They're made with flour grown locally and processed by Montana Flour and Grain in Fort Benton and eggs from Center Mark Farm or Howe's Sunnyside Eggs.
Stay for lunch and treat yourself to some hearty soup, a sandwich, or a healthy salad.
The food here is top-notch -- the bookstore is just an added bonus.

We think combining a bookstore and a cafe is brilliant. Have you ever heard of this one-of-a-kind spot?
