Montana is called the Last Best Place for a reason -- we like to preserve history as much as possible. And our passion for preservation (and love of good food) is why you can still dine at one of the oldest establishments in the state. The next time you're in Butte, step inside Gamers Cafe to be transported back in time.
Gamers Cafe is located at 15 W Park St. in historic downtown Butte.
The eatery was founded in 1905, just 16 years after Montana became a state.
The interior is quite charming, and you really will feel like you're dining at the turn of the 20th century.
Paul and Pam Cote purchased the cafe in 1993, and they made every effort to bring it back to its original historic beauty while they renovated it.
The restaurant is a family business, and you'll often find the owners and their grandchildren working behind the counter.
The couple's oldest daughter is the restaurant manager.
This is a place that could get by on its looks alone, but the food happens to be quite good.
The cafe serves breakfast and lunch daily. In addition to their award-winning chili, they're known for their authentic Cornish Pasty smothered in gravy.
They also have rotating specials, which tend to be comfort food like this chicken fried chicken with seasoned mashed potatoes.
Hungry yet?
Gamers Cafe is open daily from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., except for Sundays, when they open at 8.
Stop by for some pancakes or a hearty burger and enjoy the old-fashioned atmosphere.
It's so fun to visit these charming, historic gems. Check out the Gamers Cafe website for menus and other information. Next, treat yourself to a meal at Montana's oldest restaurant, which also happens to be in Butte.
