This charming eatery was once a stagecoach stop. And while it's a seasonal business, meaning they take winters off, we're giving them a shout-out now to make sure every possible Montanan adds this experience to their 2019 calendars.
Ekstrom's Stage Station is located at 81 Rock Creek Rd. in the tiny town of Clinton.
The property is actually a collection of reconstructed western Montana homesteader cabins and frontier buildings moved log by log from their original location up and down the Clark Fork Valley.

The main building, which is the restaurant, is more than 150 years old.
Ekstrom Stage Station has a full campground with RV and tent spaces. You can also rent one of the cozy cabins that also happen to be renovated historic buildings.
This incredible historic spot was the dream of Jim and Doris Ekstrom, and it's still family owned and operated.
They open again next spring, so leave room on your calendar for a visit.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Montana is a huge state - the fourth-largest, in fact - and so much of it is a natural wonderland without cities or even too many mid-sized towns to visit. The Oxen Yoke Inn is far away from any major city, but this humble little saloon feels like it stepped right out of the Wild West. It's a perfect stop when you're on your way to do some hiking in the nearby Helena-Lewis and Clark State Forest.
