Burgers and Montana go together like… well, big open skies and Montana. This all-American staple is part of our standard diet, and we’ve got hundreds upon hundreds of delicious places to grab one. Including them ALL on a list would be an impossible task, but if you manage to enjoy a burger at these 15 spots in your lifetime, you can probably call yourself a Montana burger connoisseur. Are you up to the challenge? Here is the ultimate burger bucket list in Montana.
1. Rod’s Drive In, Havre
The Ugly Burger is known statewide as a delicious staple. In a state the size of ours, that’s extremely impressive. But every burger on their menu is worthy of a spot on this list.
2. Nap's Grill, Hamilton
Nap’s Grill has a variety of American classics on the menu, but it’s their enormous burgers that have put them on the map. If you leave here hungry, you’re doing something wrong.
3. Thirsty Turtle, Big Timber
The Thirsty Turtle serves some of the best burgers and BBQ in Montana. Their menu changes twice a year, but they’ve always got a variety of ground beef goodness available.
4. The Last Straw, Libby
Editor's Note: This restaurant is permanently closed.
Unless you’re from the Libby area, you probably haven’t heard of The Last Straw… it’s an unpretentious little cafe that serves delicious home-cooking. But for those who call Northwest Montana home, it’s THE place to go for a burger.
5. The Missoula Club (“Mo Club)”, Missoula
The Mo Club is where a lot of Missoula locals go for a good drink, but they also know not to leave the barstool when they get hungry. The burgers here are legendary.
6. Parker’s Restaurant, Drummond
If you don’t find a burger you like at Parker’s, you may have to admit you just don’t enjoy burgers at all. At last count, they had 135 varieties available.
7. Little Blue Joint, Darby
You really can’t go wrong here―Little Blue Joint primarily serves pizza, but everything on the menu is delicious. The burgers are exceptional.
8. The Burger Dive, Billings
Since its 2010 opening, The Burger Dive has earned a special place in the hearts of most Billings burger lovers. It can get extremely crowded, but for good reason.
9. Wally & Buck, Missoula
If you’re not up to a sit-down meal at the Mo Club in Missoula, try to find the Wally & Buck food truck. Their handmade burgers are made from local grass fed beef, and they’re served out of a charming vintage trailer.
10. Flip, Glasgow
Flip’s is a classic, no-frills hamburger joint, and they encourage patrons to wash down their burgers with a shake. In other words, they’re amazing.
11. Mark’s In & Out, Livingston
Mark’s vintage building will make you feel like you’re enjoying a burger in the 1950s. The best part? Their prices aren’t much higher than they were back then.
12. Roadhouse Diner, Great Falls
We’re not saying the Roadhouse Diner will serve you the best burger of your life… but we’re not necessarily saying they won’t, either.
13. Von’s Cafe, Eureka
Von’s serves perfectly cooked bacon cheeseburgers with sides of crinkly fries. What more could you ask for?
14. Scotty’s Bar, Kalispell
