There are great places to eat and drink throughout the state of Montana. If you're not local, you might imagine plenty of steakhouses and other establishments that celebrate America's western frontier. While we certainly have no shortage of spots like that, there's so much more to Big Sky Country. If you're intrigued, you might want to make your way to Helena. Here, tucked away behind unassuming facades and concealed from the prying eyes of the rest of the state, Speakeasy 41 stands as a testament to a bygone era, a living relic of the Prohibition era.
From the outside, Speakeasy 41 Brewing Company looks a lot like other local breweries. A nondescript exterior and a large sign give a good sense of what's inside. But this isn't like any other brewery we've visited.
When you walk in, you'll need to know exactly how to gain entry. Look at the bookcase and try a few ways to make your way in. You'll be glad you did.
The feel of this brewery is a mix of both a traditional brewing company and a cozy speakeasy, made for people who want a few hours of hiding out. The craft brewery is located on the northern edge of town and is owned by the same people behind Missouri River Brewing Co.
We love the vintage feel, complete with old barrel tables, a fireplace, and jazz music in the background. They even have a projector showing black & white films to complete the trip back in time.
This speakeasy in Montana serves 12-ounce pours along with flights.
Flights allow you to taste a variety of brews, so we definitely recommend this option.
While the novelty of a speakeasy is fun, the brewery also feels a lot like a traditional, large brewing spot. Enjoy brunch with the family, live music, and games.
They also have outdoor seating. It's best to visit more than once so you can soak up the many sides of this fun spot in Helena.
Speakeasy 41 Brewing Company is open throughout the year. Hours vary by weekday or weekend so it is best to visit the Speakeasy 41 page on the Helena Montana website to plan your visit. You can also follow Speakeasy 41 on Facebook. They can be reached at 406-422-1841.
If you're not local to Helena, you'll want to plan on spending some extra time here. I recommend booking a vacation rental through VRBO to make the most of your time. Then, once you're all settled in, book some fun activities through Viator!
One fun must-do is a trolley tour of the city, followed by an exploration of the Tizer Botanic Gardens.
