Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. An Instagram ad caught my eye during a late-night scroll session and I was intrigued by the colorful compartments and versatility of the bag, which can be carried as a duffle or as a backpack (I prefer the backpack for even weight distribution and airport navigation.) Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. The Mercury Room, conceived by the creative minds behind The Monarch Bar and Verdigris [other highly regarded Kansas City, Missouri establishments], is a testament to the art of mixology. The moment you settle into one of the plush lounging couches, it’s clear that this is a place where the ordinary is left at the door. With its gleaming surfaces and meticulous arrangement of bottles, the bar itself is a stage where alchemy happens, and the bartenders are the magicians.
I love a story within a story. Kansas City, Missouri, is home to Boulevard Brewing Co. The brewers ventured away from beer and created some spiked and sparkling seltzers, one popular staple in Kansas City - Pearl Yuzu Quirk. The Mercury Room created a stiffer version called KWERK with Asian Pear, Kabos [citrus fruit native to Japan, similar to Yuzu], Lemongrass Shochu [traditional Japanese distilled spirit], and Japanese vodka. As you can see, the cocktail menu is imaginative. Seasonal concoctions push the boundaries of flavor and presentation; each sip tells a story. It is a story of passion, creativity, and a deep understanding of the craft. The crown jewel of the menu, a $135 Manhattan, isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience. Made with WhistlePig 18-year-old whiskey, Barolo Chinato, and aromatic bitters, it’s a testament to the heights that a simple cocktail can reach in the hands of experts.
As you gaze out through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city stretches out before you, a patchwork of lights and shadows. The view alone is worth the visit, but the overall experience leaves a lasting impression. The bar welcomes guests from the late afternoon into the late evening, offering the perfect opportunity to time your visit around sunset. Start on the relaxed terrace, where you can watch the sun casting a warm golden glow over the cityscape. As twilight deepens, you’re drawn inside to the “jewel box” of the bar, where the ceiling’s soft, star-like glow mirrors the twinkling lights of the skyline outside.

The dress code, which leans towards smart business casual, ensures that the atmosphere remains as refined as the cocktails. No food is served, so it’s wise to dine beforehand, allowing you to focus entirely on the liquid artistry in your glass. The Mercury Room offers a standard reservation for a la carte cocktails or a three-course drink tasting starting at around $75. Most drinks run about $20.
