There's nothing better on a hot summer day than ice cream.  The good news is, Missouri has a multitude of yummy choices.  While they are not all technically "ice cream" (some are custard or yogurt), you really can't go wrong.  Ice Cream?  Yes, please.

1. All Aboard Ice Cream, Joplin

Previously known as Anderson's Ice Cream and Cinnamon Rolls, and now in a new location, you've got to try All Aboard Ice Cream in Joplin. Now located at 102 Castle Drive.

2. Central Dairy, Jefferson City

Central Dairy in Jefferson City has been featured on many "best of" lists of ice cream in Missouri. You will have a really tough time deciding among the huge variety of flavors! Located at 610 Madison St.

3. Andy's Frozen Custard, Branson

While Andy's is not exclusive to Missouri (they have locations in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Illinois), they are headquartered in Springfield. Try one of their seasonal concretes!

4. Braum's Real Ice Cream, Springfield

Braum's is also all over the place with locations not only in Missouri but also found in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and Arkansas. If you haven't tried it, you should. Springfield has five locations.

5. Crown Candy Kitchen, St. Louis

Also featured on many "best of" lists, particularly for their milkshakes, Crown Candy Kitchen in St. Louis is a must-try. They are located at 1401 St. Louis Avenue.

6. Ellie's Patisserie, Springfield

Ellie's ice cream is homemade and flavors vary and rotate. Try some together with one of Ellie's truffles, pastries or other treats. Located at 1454 E. Cherry Street.

7. Fritz's Frozen Custard, St. Louis

With locations in Florissant, St. Peters, O'Fallon, West County and Wentzville, Fritz's features a flavor of the day and also has free baby cones for kids 3 and under.

8. Glace' Artisan Ice Cream, Kansas City

If you find yourself in Kansas City, you might want to head on over to Glace' Artisan Ice Cream for some note-worthy flavors such as Blackberry Chocolate Flake or Peanut Butter Chocolate. They are located at 4960 Main Street.

9. Murray's Ice Cream and Cookies, Kansas City

Another great Kansas City gem, Murray's ice cream, with flavors like One Drunk Monk and Cotton Candy Confetti, makes for a one of a kind experience. Located at 4120 Pennsylvania Avenue.

10. Pineapple Whip, Springfield

With three locations in Springfield, you are definitely in for a treat at Pineapple Whip. Hurry up, though. They are only open in the summer.

11. Poppy's Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, Lee's Summit

With rotating flavors, you never know what you will find at Poppy's other than the fact that it'll be good. Located at 307 SE Douglas in Lee's Summit.

12. Ruby's Ice Cream, St. James

Ruby's homemade ice cream is made in St. James and brought to the Soda Fountain in Steelville. They have been around since 1905 so they must know what they are doing.

13. Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream, Webster Groves

At 8130 Big Bend Boulevard in Webster Groves, Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream boasts rotating flavors and award winning ice cream.

14. Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, St. Louis

You can't be in St. Louis and not try Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. With two unassuming locations, be prepared to wait in line for the much-adored variety of flavors. Located at 6726 Chippewa and 4224 S. Grand.

15. The Fountain, St. Louis

Foursquare called The Fountain in St. Louis the best Ice cream shop in the state. Don't take their word for it, try it for yourself! They are located at 3037 Locust St. in Midtown.

16. Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream, Columbia

Sparky's in Columbia is another great spot for homemade ice cream. Located at 21 S. 9th Street
