Ice cream remains a pretty nostalgic dessert for almost everyone in America, especially Missourians. Which would make sense, since the waffle cone was invented by a vendor at the World's Fair in St. Louis. The fro-yo trend seems to still being going strong, but if we're being honest here, hand-packed ice cream tastes so much better. Step into this Kansas City ice cream parlor and you'll feel like a kid in a candy, er I mean, ice cream shop again!
Murray's Ice Cream Shop was established in 1984 and is nestled in the bustling Westport neighborhood in Kansas City.
The store is decked out with bright splashes of colors and bright neon lights.
Each day, the parlor serves 16 flavors of ice cream. It may not seem like much, but they continuously switch out their selection with new homemade flavors. This month the shop features Pumpkin Pie, Peanut Butter & Fudge, Heavenly Hash, French Apple Crumb, Mocha Brownie and more!
You can even celebrate Thanksgiving a little early by trying out Mom's Apple Pie, a favorite among customers.
Murray's doesn't just stop at cookies, they bake an assortment of warm, ooey-gooey cookies each day!
Why choose one, when you can have the best of both worlds? Murray's lets visitors choose two cookies and their ice cream flavor to make a dessert unique to them.
Take a pint back with you so you can enjoy it with a movie in the comfort of your own home. Or stock up for a zombie apocalypse. Both reasons are completely valid.
Murray's usually closes up shop for a few months in the winter, so make sure you check their Facebook to see if they're open beforehand. If you get there the last day, you may run into a long end-of-the-season line.
Murray's Homemade Ice Cream and Cookies is located at 4120 Pennsylvania Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. They can be reached by phone at (816) 931-5646 or via Facebook.
