Dining out allows us the opportunity for so many unique experiences. We can travel halfway across the world, sampling food from faraway lands without leaving home. Sometimes we can even journey back through the pages of time to eras we never got to experience firsthand. Step into the past, for example, when you slip into a booth at one of the oldest family-owned restaurants in Missouri. It's been a favorite for generations - and you'll quickly see why.
Join generations of Missourians in a treasured tradition - a meal, ice cream, and a candy treat from Crown Candy Kitchen in St. Louis.
Opened by Henry Karandzieff in 1913, the popular corner soda fountain has been a St. Louis favorite ever since. It's still in the Karandzieff family, too.
You might even see Andy Karandzieff, pictured above and one of the current owners, during your visit.
Once inside this old-school soda fountain, time feels like it stands still. Slip into one of the booths for a delicious meal.
One of the most scrumptious ways to start your meal is with a bowl of chili, especially on a crisp St. Louis day. Scoop up a bowl of classic chili or chili mac, or order a chili dog.
Crown Candy Kitchen features more than a dozen hearty sandwiches, too - from egg salad and roast beef to corned beef and Reuben.
All sandwiches come with chips and a pickle. Salads are also available.
Make it the perfect meal by adding a strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla shake. Or how about a malt?
You can't visit Crown Candy Kitchen either, without treating yourself to a homemade ice cream treat. Opt for a scoop or two, or indulge in a sundae - like the banana split or the chocolate marshmallow.
But...there's more. The candy kitchen also sells a variety of homemade chocolates, including chocolate bars and hand-dipped clusters.
View days, hours, and a menu on the Crown Candy Kitchen website. Or, stop by its Facebook page.
