Some restaurants burst onto the culinary scene, get a lot of attention, and somehow fade over time, becoming a mere memory of a time long gone. Then there are those restaurants that become favorites from generation to generation, winning lifelong allegiance from customers because the food and the service are just that good. Whether you live here or are traveling through, you’ve probably passed by and likely even dined at this regional restaurant in Missouri.
If you’ve ever craved a really good roast beef sandwich, you’ve likely made your way to one of the dozens of Lion’s Choice restaurants scattered throughout Missouri, predominately in the St. Louis area. It even has several Kansas locations.
Lion’s Choice has become a Missouri tradition, serving some of the best roast beef since Marv Gibbs and Arthur Morey opened their first location in Ballwin in 1967. Just two years later, the restaurant debuted in Creve Coeur and, from there, its popularity (and number of locations) snowballed.
We’ve all likely been to that other fast food joint that’s known for its roast beef. Lion’s Choice regulars, who heap praise on this home state fast food joint, often claim that this local favorite has the best roast beef bar none.
A trip to Lion’s Choice inevitably means at least considering ordering its famous roast beef sandwich. Made with slow-roasted beef that’s shaved extra thin, the sandwich comes topped with the restaurant’s equally-famous seasoning.
Lion’s Choice boasts that their roast beef is roasted over three hours to get it just right.
Add a helping of natural-cut fries for a hearty, scrumptious meal that will leave you full. Or try the baked potato or fresh veggies.
While the roast beef certainly earns top billing, the menu also features a slew of other favorites, including roasted turkey breast, hickory smoked ham, and Italian beef sandwiches.
Hot dogs, chili, and broccoli cheddar soup are also on the menu.
Lion’s Choice is known for something else, too, and that’s its famous (and delightfully delicious) frozen custard. Enjoy it in a cone, a sundae, a concrete, or a freeze.
