Some restaurants come and go. Others, like Latham’s Hamburger Inn, stay in business for decades. And it’s no mistake the burger joint has been around for so long. Over the years, it’s garnered quite the reputation thanks to its signature slugburgers. Take a look:
Located in downtown New Albany, Latham’s Hamburger Inn opened in 1928. It was originally located across the street from its present location, where it moved to in 1974.
The city has seen a lot of restaurants come and go throughout the decades but Latham’s has endured — and for good reason.
Since opening 90 years ago, the eatery has been serving up its signature slugburger.
(Don’t let the name fool you. A product of the Great Depression, slugburgers used to sell for a nickel, which was known as a "slug" in those days.)
Consistently delicious, the now-famous burger is made using a secret recipe that was purchased nearly a century ago.
While the recipe is a secret, we do know the patty consists of beef, spices, and dough. The patty is then pan fried to a crispy brown and served on a bun with pickles, onions, and mustard.
But the recipe isn't the only thing that hasn't changed.
The stools that line the counter were salvaged from Latham's original dining car location.
Despite Latham’s small town locale, people travel near and far for its slugburger. The iconic burger has even been featured on "Burgerland."
The slugburger may be the most popular item at Latham's but it's not all you'll find on the menu.
Though not huge, the menu does include other fast food eats, including sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and more.
