Think a restaurant has to be, well, a restaurant? Think again! One of Oxford’s most popular eateries, Oxford Canteen, is located in an alley. That’s right; an actual alley. Described as a "food truck with no wheels," it’s definitely one of the most unique eateries in the entire state, if not the country. See for yourself:
Located on the Square, Oxford Canteen is hidden between the Lyric Theatre and the South Depot Taco Shop.
Occupying the alley between the two buildings, it provides a setting like no other.
Orders are placed at the take-out window…
...and once filled, customers can pick-up their food and grab a seat at one of three food counters.
The restaurant’s fare is just as unique as the setting.
The menu is constantly changing, but one thing always remains the same…
...each and every item is prepared with only the freshest of ingredients.
Oxford Canteen is also known for its unique creations, such as the Breakfast Tacos.
The brisket grilled cheese with Sriracha is another popular item. It was even named the best grilled cheese sandwich in the state.
Several times throughout the year, Oxford Canteen transforms through its “PopUps,” which include revamped menus that focus on a specific type of cuisine.
The current PopUp is called Canoodle and features a menu of noodles, rice dishes, and Banh Mi sandwiches.
The flavorful noodle bowls are extremely popular and only cost $7.99!
Not sure how you feel about noodles? That's okay; the fare is constantly changing, so there are plenty of chances to try something new.
