Mississippi’s hidden gems are usually located in really remote, rural areas. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes, they’re hiding right under our noses. Take for instance, The Sicilian II. It’s located smack dab in the middle of Biloxi, one of the state’s largest cities, and most residents don’t even know it exists. However, since it was recently named one of the best Italian restaurants in the nation, it’s definitely worth searching for. Take a look:
The last place you’d expect to find authentic Italian food is a strip mall, but that’s exactly the case with The Sicilian II.
As the name implies, this is the 2nd version of the eatery. The 1st was in Arab, AL. After nine years in business, the original closed and, in 2013, The Sicilian II opened in Biloxi.
Despite its obscure location, the website Cheapism named it one of the "Best Old School Italian Restaurants in America," which isn’t too surprising once you learn the dishes are prepared using family recipes straight from Sicily.
The lasagna, for example, is made using a recipe that’s over 100 years old!
Even better, the atmosphere is pretty laid back, so you can enjoy your meal comfortably.
Diners rave about everything from the appetizers to the desserts. Start your meal off with the homemade mozzarella sticks – they’re a customer favorite.
The pizza is another popular item.
Both the dough and sauce are made at the restaurant...
...so it’s practically guaranteed to be some of the freshest (and best) pizza you’ve ever tasted.
Crisp salads and hearty pasta dishes are also menu staples. There are also daily lunch specials, which start at $6.99.
So, are you ready to pull up a chair at one of the nation’s best Italian Restaurants?
