There are a lot of great seafood restaurants in the Magnolia State. You can find them just about everywhere – even in the state’s smallest towns and communities. In fact, that’s where you’ll find one of Mississippi’s best seafood restaurants – Dempsey’s. With its remote location and unassuming exterior, it’d be easy to pass by, but you definitely don’t want to miss out on this hidden gem.
Dempsey’s is tucked away in the tiny community of Kiln (or "the Kill" to locals). It’s pretty remote, but well worth the drive.
It’s housed in a green barn-like building and described as having a "roadside shack feel," but don’t let the outside fool you into not stopping – you and your stomach will regret it.
Step inside, and you’ll find a dining room that’s large yet cozy and casual with high ceilings, exposed rafters, and metal sheeting.
Grab a seat and look over the expansive menu, which is loaded with fresh, locally-caught seafood.
Start your meal off with the house specialty – char grilled oysters.
Fried seafood is another Dempsey’s favorite. Crispy and never greasy, it’s sure to hit the spot.
Choose between fried oysters, shrimp, redfish, crawfish and catfish – or go with a combo platter so you can enjoy three of your favorites, along with Dempsey’s famous mac and cheese.
Not in the mood for fried seafood? That’s okay; you can also get it grilled and blackened.
Lighter dishes, like gumbo and shrimp and grits, are also available, making Dempsey’s a great lunchtime stop.
The menu even includes steaks, which are just as tasty as the seafood.
Dempsey’s is open on Sunday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. – 9 pm., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Dempsey’s is located at 6208 Kiln-Delisle Rd., Kiln, MS. For more information, call (228) 255-2043 or visit the eatery’s website or Facebook.
