In the past, we’ve told you about must-visit retro spots, like Brent’s Drugs and Borroum’s Drug Store and Soda Fountain, but those aren’t the only decades-themed eateries in the state. Another that belongs on your radar is Blue and White Restaurant. Authentically retro, the restaurant looks like something straight from the 50s. Take a look:
Located in Tunica, Blue and White Restaurant first opened in 1924 alongside the original Route 61. It moved to its current location in 1937.
With the addition of casinos, many things have changed in Tunica over the decades; however, things at Blue and White Restaurant have stayed pretty much the same.
From the vinyl chairs and booths to the classic checkered floor, it’s undeniably retro. There’s even countertop seating – a cornerstone in diners of decades past.
But the décor isn’t the only thing that hasn’t changed at Blue and White Restaurant. Just like all those years ago, the eatery is still known for its tasty, home-cooked fare.
Stop by for lunch or dinner and you can fill up on traditional Southern food, like chicken and dumplings, greens, black-eyed peas, fried chicken, catfish, and more.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. Gulfport is no stranger to excellent seafood, and residents wouldn't be taken in by subpar fare. It says something, then, that The Chimneys, owned by locals Peter and Dix Nord, has flourished since its turn-of-the-milennium debut at its present-day location.
Situated in what was once a stately society home, the century-old structure epitomizes Southern charm. But the glittering coastal scenery that put it on the map would also be its undoing.In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulfport coastline and reduced the restaurant to rubble. In disbelief, the Nord family returned to their business, where only some silverware and a table remained.
But Mississippians are nothing if not resilient. Four years after the tragedy took their livelihood from them, the Nord family— who've been in the restaurant business for years— decided to rebuild. The Gulfport community was thrilled to have their favorite beachside spot back. From then on, The Chimneys moved from strength to strength, even earning recognition as Mississippi's most charming restaurant by the British website Lovefood.
It's easy to see why this local gem is so beloved. I adore the airy interiors that combine breezy relaxation with an elegant twist, making The Chimneys perfect for family events, dates, and spontaneous evenings of indulgence.
